This tutorial introduces the work of the interpreter in hospitals and treatment centres where the services may be provided either by a doctor or a nurse, or both. The setting may be in emergency or at the patient’s bedside in a ward. The interpreter may be asked to accompany the patient for a series of tests or a therapy session or a consultation with a dietitian or with a social worker before their discharge.
